This is something that has come up everywhere I have traveled, so I figured I would talk to you guys about it while I still had my pen and paper.
One of the first things you have to understand when it comes to tactics is: understanding your strengths and weaknesses. You are no use to anybody if you don't understand what you bring to a fight. For example, I am really good at flanking and taking out big target enemies. I am terrible in any situation where I am alone by myself. I can stand defense in front of a high priority team member when needed. If put in a line, I am best on one of the edges. I work best in open field battle as opposed to limited movement fights. I am also really good at keeping people from bleeding out with first aid.
What are you good at? What are you bad at? What things can you do? Where do you do best? What special skills are worth noting?
The second thing to talk about is preservation/distribution of resources. If you do not have first aid, you should get it. Second, if you do not have a way to get somebody immediately up who is bleeding out, you should find a potionmaker/alchemist and getting a basic healing potion/elixir. You only really need one, and that one should always be used to get up the person who can get everybody else up. If you are a person who can heal everybody else up you should have a) a cleanse potion and b)a contingency revive up at all times. If something is found that you can't use, give it to somebody who can.
Now, once we know who is all here, we can talk about the best way to break up into groups and the tactics those groups should use.

((OOG: Katherine told me that the mechanic of this post is that we are in a private place, where enemies won't be like "Ah ha, now I have all of your tactical secrets!" So basically, this is a safe place that NPC's won't bug in on. )) Mira, you seem real alright. I'm lookin' forward to meetin' ya. if you need a place to stay, come on by the farm on yer way into town and me and Bowen'll get ya some warm food and a clean bed. Like I said, ask Quick Wit about us. Hopefully he'll tell you we're alright folks. Now, mind you that things are real different in the last couple weeks with this spirit-life-plane-node baby poppin' up in me, so I'm still gettin' used to some new things.Right now, I ain't much in a direct fight. Gotta protect the growing little one. BUT....Errybody knows that I'm good at gettin' things that need to be got, that are hard to get. Sometimes it takes me a while, but I usually know a guy who knows a guy. Like, you ever heard of Harm Undead Gas? Didn't think so. But it's real, and it's one of my steady supplies.I talk a lot, but I promise I listen, too. I can usually find out somethin' about somethin'. Sometimes it takes a while, especially when there ain't nothin' to know about whatever I'm askin' about, but I can at least get some clues to help lead folks in the right direction.I can still make and set traps, but it's gettin' harder and harder to get 'round with this little one sproutin' up inside of me. I've been focusin' on drawin' up plans for workshops. I've also still got that engineerin' knack, little one seems to like the sound of the tools tinkin' around. Little one does NOT like alchemy fumes, so I had to put that up for a while.Somethin' that is real interestin', and I think is maybe from the inspiration of the spirit-life-plane-node baby...I'm real good at potion making now. I tried it when I was younger and had a better time with alchemy, but I decided to give it a try since it's fumes are more mild...and whaddya know. So I'm tryin' out new recipes and them seem to be workin' right nice.

Basically, you are the squishy gooey marshmallow center of a smore. You are tasty, and a smore wouldn't be a smore without you but if we leave you in the fire too long you get black and crunchy. eww. In a fight your job would to not be hit, and if you could without putting yourself in danger, get other people who have fallen up. To help with your squishyness, I recommend getting some defenses like armor or magical shields or get better at getting out of the way.
Everybody else should make note of the fact that she has potions. If you need your one getting people up potion this is the lady to go to.
Speaking on resources and armor, EVERYBODY should have armor or some way to defend against basic damage. You let everybody down when you tap the healer's resources because you can't be bothered to refit your armor or wear some in the first place. If you need to refit, signal to your teammates and they will defend while you fall back. People who continually waste resources because they continually put themselves in a position that negatively impacts their friends don't deserve to be healed anymore. Now, there are sometimes the healer will tell you to just stay and defend and they will keep healing you, that's different, but it shouldn't be assumed.

I'm good for watchin' folk and learning their strengths. I tend to yell out orders in a fight, so if I say somethin', it's cause I found a need for you to do it. I'm pretty good at defending myself and coverin' others, but my real strengths are in my healing and runes. I am a runemaster. If you want me to make a rune, tell me early in the day, because I usually line up what I carve each day early. I got some nice runes what give you magic armor and will raise you up if you fall. I'm not the best nor most powerful healer out there, but I'll be in the thick of things next to you workin' on keepin' things at bay with ma staff or shottin' things with Elowen's bow. My weaknesses are that I can't run around like I used to, and I could probably have better form and skill with my fightin'.
I'm also honest. Anyone who knows me will tell you that. I've divided the treasure afterwards with that thought in mind. People who can use the stuff get the stuff. Nobody who helps gets nothin'. everyone should get a fair share of what we find, since we all put our lives on the line and did our parts. I was cursed by the damned Fae to lie for a while and still have a reputation fer honesty. That should tell you somethin'.
If you don't know first aid, you should. Come to the farm, I'll teach you up well. I'm used to instructin' folk. I teach all of our adopted children all them time, so I'm practiced. No expert, but practiced.
Good idea to pull folks over here, Mira. We learn these things from interactin', but to have things up front like this is helpful.

I'm good at healing, I'm that guy that can get everybody back up, and elemental damage spells. If something has a brain to mess with or can be put to sleep, I'm pretty good in those fights too. My primary focus as an elementalist is Dream, but I'm pretty good with Ice too. Oh and ritual magic, I have lots of it, but I almost never use it unless the situation absolutely calls for it.
I'm a frail little wood elf, and while I can usually knock something away from me before it kills me, but all I have is a dagger, and sometimes a bow to protect me. I have some tricks, but I need others with me to survive in a sustained fight.
