2015 Vision/Plan for Success
Background info:
We just got done with our 2015 Vision at work. (I'm a Project Coordinator if anyone didn't know, thanks for helping me learn applicable real life skills, LARPing!)
The leadership team spent a good deal of time working this out. We wrote out our company's Purpose, decided on 4 Missions, broke those down into 4 Strategies and then broke those down into 4 Tasks.
We are working on creating concrete, deliverable timelines and executable actions for the 64 tasks that we will complete in 2015. We are asking for volunteers from the company to join mission teams that they are interested in and passionate about. We have clear expectations of what it means to join a team, and what kind of time and energy commitment being on a team takes.
An example from my company:
This is a real example from our company's strategy document. I'm going to share 1 Mission, 1 Strategy, 1 Task:
Mission A: Happy Team
“Create an I Care (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Energy) environment for all Team Members of Family Urgent Care as a way to inspire personal and professional growth.”
Strategy A2: Create Shared Experiences
Task A 2.2. Socials
• Host two company-paid per year (bowling night, Sempak’s, bowling, laser tag, Movie Theater) outside of Christmas party – FUN stuff, no workshops, no meetings.
• Host impromptu/self-paid socials.
o Leadership commits to organizing one event per year (can be Facebook event to go to a movie or something, does not have to be a huge thing, but it can be if you want it to be).
• Ask Team what they want to be involved in this year.
What would that look like in Heroic?
Based off of what people are saying recently, an example could be:
Mission A: Human Resources
"To increase attendance and participation in all Heroic Nebraska games."
Strategy A.1.: Increase staff to include 1 full time logistics manager and at least 3 full time NPC's.
Task A.1.1.: Write up job descriptions, expectations and training program for needed positions.
Task A.1.2.: Create promotional material to be used on FB, forums and in print for these positions.
Task A.1.3.: Recruit inside of organization, recruit outside of organization.
Task A.1.4.: Select and train new staff members.
Strategy A.2.: Increase player volume at all Heroic Nebraska games
Task A.2.1.: Select recruitment team leaders
Task A.2.2.: Write marketing/recruitment campaign for 2015.
Task A.2.3.: Publish and educate on marketing/recruitment campaign for increased involvement.
Task A.2.4.: Track and trend recruitment efforts throughout the year and improve.
Does that format/concept make sense?
What does this all mean?
1. Basically, if you don't know where you are going -- you will probably never get there. This was a really helpful organizational exercise at work, and I think it could help us in Heroic too.
2. If you would like me to sit with Nebraska's leadership team and facilitate this, I would be happy to. (I'm not a strategic planner, but out of our 10 person company leadership team, I ended up organizing and leading this thing, and it was pretty fun.)
